Learn To Reuse And Re-purpose Items Around The House

July 22nd, 2011

One of the best ways you can be green and limit the impact you have on the earth is to learn how to reuse and re-purpose items all around your house.

One thing that you can do is to re-purpose your organic trash to create a compost pile. You can then use this compost pile to fertilize your flower beds and gardens. Items which you can add to your compost pile include: fruit waste, vegetable waste, egg shells, shredded paper, coffee grounds and grass clippings among many others. By creating a compost pile not only are you helping to keep trash out landfills but also giving nutrients back to the soil.

If composting isn’t your style find other ways to reuse items around your house. For example, if you have a bunch of old t-shirts, you can cut them into smaller rags and use those in place of paper towels for cleaning up messes and spills. Another item you can re-use is your junk mail; store all of your junk mail in a drawer and when you need a piece of paper to jot notes or thoughts on pull a sheet out. Junk mail also makes great coloring paper for kids.
