From the electricity rates in texas to the abundance of smart cars, it’s evident there’s a green evolution going on. If you’re interested in giving back to the earth directly we’ve got some green gardening ideas – you can’t miss with these environmentally friendly suggestions:
Start Composting: Coffee grounds, fruit refuse and even newspaper make great additions to a world of composting. Get a bucket with a lid and find some garage space – this stuff is the best fertilizer you can buy.
Plant a Garden: An actual vegetable garden! Hyper local is here to stay and think of the great fresh tastes and health benefits that will come from growing your own plants. Peppers, tomatoes and even herbs make great first-time solutions and they’ll keep the yard fragrant, too.
Think Community Garden: If you’re looking to get everyone else involved in your green effort, think about heading up a community garden. Get going with some hearty soil and a few wooden boxes and ask people to volunteer their time on weekends. IT’s a great way to get everyone behind the cause.

Eating patterns can drastically alter the environment, but consumers may not be aware of how their meal planning has an impact.

Beef, chicken, and pork farms can take up hundreds of acres of land. Fish farms are often located on the shore of a lake or ocean. Although responsible owners may recycle waste and other byproducts, many factory farms choose simple disposal because of the cost. This leads to contaminated soil and water. Organic farms may claim to raise their animals safely, but they have a significant land use footprint without producing as much product as factory farms.

Cheap food may be sourced from countries without high environmental standards. For example, China has dealt with tainted meat, milk, and vegetables within the last five years. Hundreds of people have died in each scandal, and thousands experienced severe illnesses. Lax environmental standards lead to increased air pollution, the loss of fertile land, and unhealthy consumers.

Food costs are necessary expenses for any budget. Food with the least impact on the environment may be too expensive for many people, but consumers can upgrade to a slightly better option than their current choice of foods. Even a small improvement can make a difference.

It is my responsibility to make our planet a better place, as I realize my children will inherit this world from me. One of the most important things I can do for our planet is to buy locally grown food whenever it is an option.

Yes, you can make the world a better place based on your food choices! If a person makes it a goal to buy local, there are numerous benefits. The food you eat is healthier. It is going to contain fewer additives. It will taste better, and the price is much more affordable than you might imagine.This/tag helps explain it more.

When we buy locally grown foods we are helping the planet. Local foods contain less packaging. This immediately benefits the planet as less garbage ends up in a landfill. Also, fewer resources are used to transport locally grown foods to their destination. Less pollution is in the air due to the transport of the foods, and finally there are the economic benefits to consider. If you buy local, your money stays in the community you live in. If that farmer is able to earn a living from his land, that is one less person commuting 100 miles to work.

One of the best ways you can be green and limit the impact you have on the earth is to learn how to reuse and re-purpose items all around your house.

One thing that you can do is to re-purpose your organic trash to create a compost pile. You can then use this compost pile to fertilize your flower beds and gardens. Items which you can add to your compost pile include: fruit waste, vegetable waste, egg shells, shredded paper, coffee grounds and grass clippings among many others. By creating a compost pile not only are you helping to keep trash out landfills but also giving nutrients back to the soil.

If composting isn’t your style find other ways to reuse items around your house. For example, if you have a bunch of old t-shirts, you can cut them into smaller rags and use those in place of paper towels for cleaning up messes and spills. Another item you can re-use is your junk mail; store all of your junk mail in a drawer and when you need a piece of paper to jot notes or thoughts on pull a sheet out. Junk mail also makes great coloring paper for kids.

We live in a world today that is infested with artificial additives. We see this in our everyday lives, whether it is the clothes we wear, or the food we eat. In fact, all sorts of toxins are even contained in the air we breathe. In short, it is very difficult to escape all of this. However, there are a few things that can be done to lessen the invasion of toxic materials into our bodies, and one big way in doing that would be to be careful what we eat. After all, the food people eat is the biggest way the human body gets invaded by all these unwanted substances.

The fruits and vegetables people eat is one of the biggest sources of toxic substances. The good news is that it is easy to grow your own fruits and vegetables. All it takes is a few minutes out of the day to start a vegetable garden. It does not require large amounts of land to be able to do this. Another way to grow vegetables is by the hydroponic method. This involves growing the plants in water containers, and the best part is that you do not need land to do it! At the end of it all, you will get your own fresh green vegetables to put on your dinner table.
