5 years passed.I think Tommy and other two band members have changed their mind and their thought of music. In the psat days, their mainly music style is English rock. I love it and I hope TBG will keep this style. However,I will keep SUPPORTing them ,and I trust in them.
Good question. This has been on my mind a little since I first heard the clip of the new song. Yes, I am a little worried, as I liked TBG because they sounded like English Indie/Britpop/Rock and they where damn good at it. After hearing the clip of "Stand By Me" I felt a feeling of anti-climax, I had been expecting something phenomenal that would blow me away, but at first listen this seems a little middle of the road. Although I believe the fact that it is a drama ending theme may influence it a little. We should wait for the CD and see what the full song and especially the b-sides are like, I think only then shall we realise what direction TBG are heading in musically. Remember the 3 singles from THE WINTER ALBUM? Sandwiched between the brilliantly buri guri "Forever To Me" and "I'M SO SORRY BABY" was the poppy, out of place "Rainy Days Never Stays", maybe thats what this is and the next song will be back to their old style. Anyway, for all we know when we hear the full version of SBM, it may well sound completely different from the 90 second cut/edited version we have heard.
I am not worried about their style. Just one song. I am enjoying "Stand by me". But I do agree with Omnislash, I think it is middle of the road. The thing is, at first I didn't like "Forever to me" at first, then it completely grew on me and is one of my favourite songs by them. It all takes time, and even then, there are b-sides and new songs. In short, I am not worried.
I think I very enjoy all the songs that TBG sang before. I feel they can control their music, and the music fit Tommy's voice very much.So I love each song of TBG. Thank you, my friends! I think they will find their way finally and make the best music for us!
By the way, which kind of language do you like Tommy sings, Japanese or English?I like Japanse songs but I like that Tommy sings in English~I hope Tommy will write lyric more in English~
I like it that she sings in both languages, but slightly prefer Japanese, she just makes it sound so beautiful ( e.g. Nagai Tameiki No Youni, Sono Speed De, Kuroi Tsubasa, HIDOI AME, Angel Song). I love the songs that incorporate both languages as it's good to sing along to the English parts aswell, especially "Hello Another Way", "I'M SO SORRY BABY", and "Forever To Me". I do prefer the English version of "Call my Name" to the Japnese version tho'.
It was said that TBG was not very popular and not liked by most Japanese because most Japanese didn't very understand English, and then Tommy wasn't very very beautiful when she was young(But I think she is ALWAYS the most best one to me!). But Japan is growing better in music than before.TBG return again, will they be accept by most Japanese and be more popular than before?I also worry about this.
I suppose thats why the first 2 singles didn't do very well, but as soon as they sang in Japanese for the majority of their 1st number 1 hit, "There Will Be Love There" and Tommy had a makeover they became massive. They never released a song entirely in English after the failures of Bye Bye Mr.Mug and Goodbye and Good Luck (not counting "CALL MY NAME", which there is 2 versions of) but included them as album tracks and b-sides. By the way I happen to think Tommy looked really cool and amazingly cute and beautiful when she was young in those first 2 videos, but understand the image change for the 3rd single. I'm sure they've made sure that they'll be massive on return to music. Thats why they've gone for the drama song route again, it almost guarentees that the song will be a hit, just look at "There Will Be Love There" and "Sono Speed De". I think they had to take this route for the first song on the comeback because of the extra coverage the song receives being on TV every week. This is why I think the second song will be less commercial and more Buri Guri and they will hope that it would be a hit on the back of the success of "Stand By Me". Even though you say that Japanese music is better, I still haven't heard anything to match the quality of The Brilliant Green, so I think they'll be ok. The one worry is that hip hop music has taken over the Japanese charts, and it me be hard for a rock band that isn't visual kei to break into that stranglehold.
About the hip-hop music,I really feel very surprise. Japanese can accept the hip-hop music, even if Visual Rock, but why don't they notice TBG' music style? In the busy life of every day,I think TBG' music can give more encouragement more than some pop kinds of music. I really don't understand this.
I could not agree more, well said. I think thats why The Brilliant Green are so popular in the UK, Europe, USA and South America, and thats why I think a small world tour would be a success. They could play 200-500 capacity venues. E.g. London, Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Rio, LA, New York, Mexico City.
I can speak English ,I can also speak a little( it can be said a little ,or much~) Japanese.
BUT ,I 'M NOT A JANPANESE.......^_^ WHAT A PITY ,RIGHT?

I just got a letter from CD Japan saying my copy was shipped this morning! I'll tell you how it all sounds but I do have faith that they can pull this off. It's just great to hear them all again.
